The aim of Restart is to help you or a loved one increase personal insight and awareness of the strategies manage digital technology use, while pursuing one’s highest and best life. The first phase of treatment for a technology related behavioral addiction consists of taking a lengthy break from technology. Clients are asked to take a break from your personal technology use. This means “unplugging” from daily technology consumption of laptops, netbooks, computer, console games, cell phones, iPads, and any other technology products that consume your time and serve as a distraction. Disconnecting from technology will . . .

• Provide an opportunity to better understand the underlying problems, motivations, and reasons for your excessive technology use; and

• Assist the brain preparing for learning new material and ways of relating to everyday challenges; and

• Help to reduce anxiousness and depression associated with excessive technology use; and

• Allow for an opportunity to mindfully connect with oneself without distractions Although you may bring selective technology devices (e.g., mp3 player) to the program, if it is determined by staff that you are using it to excess, you will be asked to put it away, or use it during agreed upon times. During this period of abstinence, users receive daily coaching, mentoring and counseling to better understand their individual interaction patterns and develop a comprehensive plan for developing a healthier and sustainable relationship with digital media.
