EDITORIAL: Detox

Sep. 14–With the exception of his daily psychotherapy sessions, the 19-year-old man in a recent Wall Street Journal story experiences an idyllic, stressless sort of existence. He spends his days “doing household chores, working on the grounds, going on outings, exercising and baking a mean batch of ginger cookies.”
It is no coincidence that his routine also sounds like a blast from the pre-Internet past. It’s supposed to. He is the inaugural resident of ReSTART, a self-proclaimed “first residential treatment center” for “Internet addiction” in the U.S. Located in Fall City, Wash., reSTART opened in July and offers a 7-week program to help people kick the habit of “pathological computer use.”
