Where to start if someone you know is addicted
One of the most helpful things you can do is to learn more about video game addiction, Internet, VR and videogame misuse, over-use and addiction.
There are two resources recommended for those concerned about a loved one’s problematic use and how to best to open the dialogue about addiction. For adults, we recommend the book titled, It’s not okay to be a cannibal: How to keep addiction from eating your family alive.” This book is written from a differing perspective, however many of the same principles apply to those with an emerging technology addiction.
For children and adolescents, the resource we suggest reading is by co-founder by Dr. Hilarie Cash titled, “Video Games and Your Kids: How parents stay in control.”
If you have a loved one struggling with their digital technology use, reach out for support to discuss treatment options.
