Participants arrive in various stages and readiness for change. Some participants have been seeking help for their problematic use for a long time but do not possess the skills necessary to change patterns of use on their own, or where to seek help. Others arrive with the belief that they don’t have a problem, or that their parents or significant other is the problem. Whatever the case may be, you can expect the clinical team to listen to your concerns, and work with you to understand your particular set of presenting problems. This enables you to be an active participant in tailoring the treatment to meet your individualized needs. How well you do is really based on your willingness to take advantage of what the program has to offer. For instance, if you half-heartedly go to the gym, you will not reap the benefits associated with a healthy body and mind. If you do the bare minimum required to check off an assigned task, you will not benefit from the rewards associated with really applying yourself and doing a job to the best of your abilities. If you sit in group and stare at the ceiling rather than participate, you will be wasting a valuable opportunity to learn about yourself, and what you need to design a happier, healthier and balanced lifestyle. On the flip side, if you take advantage of the services offered at reSTART you may discover a healthier, happier you.
