The average American teenager, according to CNET Networks, sends and receives 1,742 text messages in a month. Additionally, they spend dozens of hours each month instant messaging and surfing the Internet. Video game usage and online gambling are also at all-time highs. In a world where technology is everywhere, it should come as no surprise that people have begun to get addicted to it in various forms. In an effort to combat rising Internet addictions, the United States government recently founded the reSTART Internet Addiction Program. reSTART, a 45-day residential program, is the first of its kind in the United States. The main headquarters is located in Fall City, Wa., ironically just a few miles from the Microsoft Headquarters. The program is specially designed to help individuals who have become addicted to the Internet through texting, chatting, instant messaging, online gaming, video gaming and gambling.
