My story: It’s OK to ask for help

reSTART has completely changed my mindset. When I came into this program my plan was to return home to Texas immediately after completing phase 1. I felt as if I needed to hold myself to a timeline. I have a year and a half left of school-only 3 semesters “That’s nothing!,” I thought, but as I worked through my own hardship and truly practiced recovery that mindset has shifted. I don’t want to return to school because school is starting… I want to return to school because I’m ready. Knowing when that is will take time and practice– two things that I haven’t given myself in the past. But I’m dedicated to success.

I refuse to take anymore shortcuts, and if I truly want to be the best person I can be, I have to be honest with myself: “I’m not ready to go back to school.’ I still have a lot of work to do –but by being in this area, by continuing to take advantage of the support network I have created, and by continuing to practice my own personal steps to recovery, that goal of being ready to return to school can be accomplished.

Of everything I’ve learned here, the most important is this:

“It’s okay to ask for help and it’s okay to not have the answers. Keep working hard and the rest will follow

I can do this!
