Dr. Cash, has worked in the emerging field of Internet and video game addiction for 20 years. She’s a co-founder of reSTART, Internet Addiction Recovery Program, the first program for adults suffering from Internet and video game addiction in the USA or Canada. This program was opened in 2009. In 2008 she co-authored the book Video Games and Your Kids: How Parents Stay in Control.
Her mission is to help people understand how we can call this problem a true addiction, how overuse of digital media can negatively impact child development and all family relationships, what mental health professionals need to know in order to identify and treat the problem and what institutions should consider when thinking about public education, research funding and educational policies. She says we cannot live without digital technology, but we can and must learn how to make it a healthy part of a balanced life; not something which takes over our lives.
