Caring for the animals fosters connection and healing
For those who call Rise-Up home, each moment of the day offers a time to connect with extraordinary animals. Lasso girl, is an active Australian Shepherd who loves to run, play and engage. Rivaling her for attention is a barn full of goats, three horses, two cuddly cats named Mischief and Mayhem, and a fainting goat named “dammit.” She may freeze up, and faint briefly, but she jumps right in and faces her challenges with grace and perseverance. These lessons are not lost on those who struggle with anxiety and video game addiction.
The primary care and keeping of the animals at Rise-Up is done by the residents. Morning feedings encourage community members to rise-up early to ensure the animals are fed and cared for. Afternoons are spent mucking stalls, and cuddling with a different animal in need of love and affection. Evenings are spent ensuring each animal is safe and protected.
Daily living at the ranch is full of structure and meaning. Residents build a strong foundation of health through the daily responsibilities required by ranch living. Over time, residents demonstrate readiness for a deeper connection with therapeutic work.
