Each day the reSTART team receives numerous calls around the world from concerned family members asking for help with the technology related problems they are having with a son or daughter, spouse or co-worker. At the very least, those contacting us describe scenarios of excessive use, and in many cases, they describe patterns of behavior and use which rises to the level of addiction. For adolescents under the age of 18, the task of breaking free from technology is filled with failed attempts, parental alienation and battles for control, and extreme difficulty in finding adequate resources who understand the problem in depth. Locally, teenagers in the Pacific Northwest have access to the reSTART team in an outpatient environment which aids in getting them moving in the direction of recovery, however, others are finding it more difficult to get the help they need.
It's been our findings, that users benefit from a sustained and prolonged period of abstinence while working on their recovery goals. Too often we hear stories of
